Kenen idea oli...

...haluta kaarevat ikkunat?!? Ai mun... ei auta kun potkia itseään.. hehe.. Voin sanoa, että kahden ikkunan tekeminen on ollut eeppinen taistelu.

Who's idea was it to want bow windows for this shop?!? Oh..mine.. need to kick myself then.. heh..

I can honestly say that making these two windows has been an epic battle.

Homma alkoi tikkujen keittämisellä, varovasti käänsin ne kaarelle gessopurkin ympärille yöksi kiinni.

It started with cooking wooden bits for a while. I then carefully bent them around my gesso jar and attached to dry overnight.

Siis oikeesti... tähän tarvittiin neljä kättä, noin rulla maalarinteippiä (ainakin), liimaa, paljon kirosanoja ja hysteerinen kikatuskohtaus.

Seuraavana päivänä siihen tarvittiin toista liimaa ja lisää teippiä.

Oh man... this took four hands, at least a roll of tape, glue, plenty of swear words and hysterical giggling.

The next day it needed another glue and more tape.

Sillä aikaa kun liima kuivui, hioin ja maalasin rimoja. Ja sitten taas teipattiin ja liimattiin monella liimalla... Ja harkittiin hermoromahdusta..

As the glue dried, I sanded and painted. Then I got out more tape and several different glues.. and considered the possibility of a complete break down...

Mutta tässä kohti alkoi tuntua, että ehkä kaikki tuska ja hammastenkiristys palkittiin. Kunnes muistin, että näitä tarvii tehdä toinenkin.. huokaus..

Siinä ikkunoiden kuivuessa sain muutenkin tuota julkisivua puuhattua. Lista on struktuurimaalilla käsiteltyä styrox-listaa. Sokkelissa jostain projektista ylijääneitä tiiliä (taitaa olla Estherin takoista). Perusajatuksena tässä projektissa on, että käytetään sitä mitä kaapista löytyy. Ja jos ei löydy juuri oikeanlaista, niin sitten improvisoidaan.

But at this point I started feeling like all the sweat, pain and tears were worth it. Until I remembered I still needed to make the second window...sigh..

As the windows dried at different stages, I had time to work on the shop front. The fancy list is in fact made from styrofoam, I painted it with structure paint.On the bottom, I used tiles left over from some other project (Esther's fireplaces, I think). I am trying to use what I have for this project. If I don't have exactly what I need, I'll improvise.

Kun istutin toista ikkunaa paikoilleen, tajusin, että olin käyttänyt ikkunakalvon väärinpäin ja ikkuna olikin puoli senttiä lyhyempi, mutta vastaavasti leveämpi kuin naapurinsa.. Saattoi olla, että muutama voimasana tipahti tässä kohtaa.. Sitten alistuin kohtalooni, ja totesin, että Viistokujalla nyt vaan on ikkunat vinksallaan.

As I was attaching the second window, I realized I had used my window glass the wrong way. It was half a centimenter shorter and wider than its' neighbor.. I may have cursed quite heavily at this point... Then I sighed and thought that windows are supposed to be crooked on Diagon Alley, right?

Nyt on ovikin paikoillaan. Koivua, balsaa, listoja ja nuppina shakkinappula.

I finished the door also. Birch, balsa and trim, the knob is a tiny chess piece.

Sisälle löysin täydellisen paneelitapetin. 

I found the perfect panel wallpaper for the walls.

Ja kirjaa varten tehdyt pöydätkin löysivät kodin.

The tables I had made for my book found a home too.

Esther näyttää oikein tyytyväiseltä.

Viistokujalta, päivää... Diagon Alley calling...

Täällä on kuulkaa dremeli laulanut ja pölly lentänyt.

I've been keeping my Dremel busy and the air dusty.

Ensimmäiseksi leikkasin aukot julkisivuihin.

First I cut out windows and doors.

Sitten alkoikin portaiden kokeilu. Kuvassa näkyy versio kolme, ja se taisi olla versio viisi joka päätyi lopulliseen käyttöön.

Then I began trying out the stairs. Pictured is version three. I believe it was version five that made the final cut.

Portaiden askeleet ovat kapalevystä. liimauksen jälkeen gessosin ja sen päälle levitin saumauslaastia antamaan kiven tuntua.

The steps are made from poster board pieces. After gluing, I painted it over with gesso and then with grout to give the feel of stone.

Talon pohjana on kaksi puista viinilaatikkoa.

The base of the build are two wooden wine boxes.

Let's see where this goes as I tend to shift plans on the fly.

Ai että meillä olikin mukava swappi!

Peppi omi aarteita itselleen.

Oh we had a lovely summertime swap!

Pippi was happily claiming ownership.

Ensimmäiseksi hän hilasi katolle Annan tekemän muhkean aurinkotuolin ja peiton. Nyt kelpaa paistatella kesäpäivää.

First she hauled the lawn chair and duvet Anna had made to the roof to enjoy the perfect summer day.

Mirja oli tehnyt kaloja. Peppi osaa näköjään myös perkuuhommat (toisin kuin minä).

Mirja had made fish. Pippi seems to know just how to gut a fish (unlike me).

Ninni oli tehnyt somat kukkaset emaliastiaan, punajuuria ja siemenpussseja.

Salla taas oli tehnyt paitsi siellä edellisessä postauksessa näkyneet kengät myös ruukkuja, talolyhtyjä ja kauniin perhostaulun.

Ninni had made sweet flowers in an enamel tub, beets and flower seed packets. 

Salla had made, not only the pink shoes you already got a peek of, but also pots, tiny house lanterns and a beautiful butterfly collection.

Minä tein kaikille kesäisen kulhosetin. 

I made a summery bowl set for everyone.

Kulholapanen lähti käsistä, niin että näitä kulhoja löytyy myös sunnuntaina Forssan markkinoilta pöydästäni. 

In fact I made quite a few bowls.. they'll be at my table on Sunday's fair in Forssa.

Sieltä löytyy myös muutama ruukku kuunliljoja ja paljon muuta. Minulla on myös pieni määrä kirjaani myynnissä edulliseen hintaan.

I also made a few pots of hostas for sale and lots more. I also have a few of my books for sale for a good price.

Peppi vähän huuteli...

..että hei sinä siellä, saisiko tätä Huvikumpua valmiimmaksi pian?

Pippi kept asking me if I'd finally do some work on her house as well?

Eli ei kun tiiliä lakkaamaan.

HenkkaMaukan matta kynsilakka oli täydellinen tiilien päälle. Sen jälkeen saumaus, ja piippu oli vihdoin valmis.

So off to lacquer tiles I went.

I used a matte nail polish for the job. Once that was dry, I did the dreaded grouting and hey presto, the chimney is up!

Sitten kaivettiin pussista kuusikulmaiset keramiikkatiilet ja liima.

Then I got out hexagonal ceramic tiles and glue.

Ja kuten näette, työergonomia on otettu hyvin huomioon.. 

And as you can see, ergonomics are well taken care of...

Siellä Peppi esittelee ei vain uusia tiiliä seinässä (jotka muuten tarkoituksella näyttävät siltä, että Peppi ne on sinne hutkinut.. sillä työasennolla ei ollut varmaankaan mitään vaikutusta..) vaan myös uutta tiskipöytää.

Pippi is showing not only the new tiles (which naturally are wonky as if Pippi stuck them up there, had nothing to do with how I had to reach inside the house..) but also her new sink.

Minulla oli yksi Wooperin haljennut pikku kippo, jonka palat liimasin laattojen päälle.

I had a broken bowl (by Wooper) I had saved the pieces of, so I glued those on top of the tiles.

Allas on tehty balsasta, muut osat balsaa ja rakettikeppiä.

The sink is made from balsa, as is most of the table also. The legs are from fireworks sticks.

Viemäriputkena toimii spray-maalattu haitaripillin pätkä.

The drain pipe is a piece of straw I spray painted.

Hellan tein konepahvista, nupit polymeerimassaa. Tein hellankin taakse pienen laatoituksen.

Siellä kattilassa ovat ihanat kengät, jotka sain kesäswapista, jossa olin mukana.

The oven is made from cardboard, the knobs are polymer clay. I added some more tiles behind it.

In the pot are cute shoes I got from a summer themed swap I was in.

Julkisivuremontti

Niin... siinä leiriviikon aikana katselin kun Ninni liimasi tiiliä ja maalasi.

Aina kun vilkaisin Estherin taloon päin, alkoi mietintä.

Kun tuo poikien kaupan julkisivu on kyllä ihan liian hailakka.. eikä se erotu yläkerrasta.

Ja siitä se sitten lähti.

During the summer camp week I watched as Ninni glued on tiles and painted.

Every time I glanced at Esther's house, I started thinking.

The boys' shop front really is too bland.. 

And that was it.

Taas liimattiin tiiliä,.. onneksi munakennot ovat ehtymätön luonnonvara :D

And again I found myself gluing on tiles.. luckily there is no shortage of egg cartons :D

Ja sitten maalia kehiin. Varastosta löytyi myös juuri sopivaa kehyslistaa.

And then paint. I also found some decorative frame list from my stash.

Nyt kauppa erottuu edukseen Viistokujalla! Ninni lupasi vielä maalata tuohon oven viereen syötävän  Dark Mark mainoksen :)

Now we're talking! Ninni had promised to paint an Edible Dark Mark ad next to the door :)

No mutta mitäs täällä tapahtuu?

Ei ole Huvikumpu läheskään valmis, mutta uutta jo pukkaa?

Tuossa talven aikana totesin, että Esther tarvitsee taikakasveilleen kaupan, se on tulossa tuohon alakertaan. Yläkertaan tulee kirjansitoja/sivujen kultaaja.

Eli Viistokuja laajenee.

Villa Villekulla is not finished, but there's something new coming?

Over the winter I decided that Esther needed a shop for her magical plants, it will be the downstairs shop. Above will be a book binder/page gilder.

So more Diagon Alley coming up.

Vierashuone

Siinä se vihdoin on, Estherin asunnon laajennus. Siitä tuli hauska lisä tuohon taloon.

There it finally is, the extension on Esther's house. I love how quirky it is now.

Leiriviikolla sain tylsimmän osuuden eli munakennonpalojen kattoon liimaamisen tehtyä. Katto on nostettavissa, että huoneeseen pääsee käsiksi.

During the camp week I got the most boring part, gluing on all those egg carton bits, finished. The roof lifts up for easy access to the room.

Makuuhuoneeseen piti sahata oviaukko. Väliovea en siihen halua, Esther pitää enemmän verhoista. Oikean kangas on vielä hakusessa.

I had to cut a door way to the bedroom. I don.t want a door, Esther prefers curtains. I am still hunting for the right fabric.

Huoneeseen olisi tulossa sivustavedettävä sohva vierassängyksi. Lampun johdollekin pitää porata reikä.

I will be adding a Scandinavian style extending daybed/couch to the room. And I need to drill a hole for the lamp cord..

Esther on niin tyytyväinen, että osti itselleen ja Lunalle jäätelöt.

Esther was so happy, she treated Luna and herself to some ice cream.

Näyttää niin kotoisalta valot päällä.

Looks so cozy with the lights on.

Päähän hiipi ajatus: Ihanaa, talo on vihdoinkin valmis!

A thought crept into my head: the house is finally finished!

Niin ehdin luulla noin vuorokauden, kunnes... 

...eli jatkoa tulossa.

I lived under that illusion for about 24 hours...
